Brian’s Story

What was once a normal birthday dinner for Brian, celebrating his move to his favorite place- the beach- took a sudden turn when he suffered his first Vasculitis-induced stroke the following day. For nearly three long months, Brian fought hard, always with a smile on his face and a heart full of care for others.

Through many ups and downs, three hospitals, three rehabilitation facilities, and countless medical professionals in search of answers, it became clear that Vasculitis was a devastating and poorly understood disease- even among doctors. Though not well known, it quickly became all we could think about.

Brian had moments of great progress throughout his rehabilitation—moving his left arm and hand, taking steps, sitting up for periods of time, and celebrating countless other victories. Just nine days before his passing, he was preparing to transition to in-home care. To say we were ecstatic about this news would be an understatement—and he was too.

However, the move was delayed when he suffered a stroke that affected his speech the day before the planned transition. Just a few days later, another stroke left him unable to move at all.

In his final days, surrounded by all of his daughters, we made a promise: to raise awareness, to educate medical professionals and the public about this disease, and to ensure that his fight did not end with his death.

In his honor, Brian’s brain and tissue samples were donated to Boston University to advance research into CNS Vasculitis and CTE. Our mission is to raise awareness, support affected families, and fund critical research toward understanding, treating, and curing these conditions.

With your help—through sharing the campaign, donating, and volunteering—we will strive to make a difference in addressing this complex neurological condition.
